How We Work

The Angle Project uses an asset-based, participant centered approach to assist communities in further understanding their own potential and utilize the strengths and skills of their peers through the theater-making experience.

Theatre Games

TAP uses theatre games to lay ground for a creative, collaborative, and safe environment, build performance art skills, and facilitate indirect learning.

Forum Theatre

Forum theatre is a form of scene work originally created by Brazilian director and educator Boal to investigate the nature of oppression through re-enacting the same situation and using various decision making strategies to invent new ways to confront problems. TAP helps the participants to create their own forum theatre pieces that reflect their problems and facilitate the process of identifying possible solutions.

Role Play

TAP uses role play to enhance participants’ understanding of social, political, and cultural situations, by giving them an active voice. It offers them the opportunity to take on roles that reflect perspectives different from their own.

Improvisation

Improvisation is saying yes. TAP uses improvisation to challenge the participants to support each other in a committed and empathetic way and further develop performance art skills.

Culturally Specific Text-based Work

TAP uses specific texts to open up a dialogue about cultural commonalities and differences that we might have individually and collectively, and use it towards a deeper understanding of culture and language.

Peer Education Work

Peer education is a tool that TAP uses during the creative process. Participants use themselves and each other as sources for information and finding solutions.

Devised Theatre

Devised theatre is a form of collaborative work that is created, written, and performed by a group of participants. It is original theatre that grows out of the thoughts, ideas, creative play, improvisation, and other activities performed during such collaboration.TAP uses devised theatre as a tool to meet the participants where they are and provide a flexible medium for them to speak freely about their concerns, try on various roles, and imagine new solutions for themselves.
